Dutch cyclist Lorena Wiebes continued her dominant form at the Tour de France Femmes by winning the second stage on Sunday, extending her overall lead in the race. The 27-year-old rider for Team SD Worx-Protime secured a sprint victory at the finish line in Geneva, completing the 147.9-kilometre stage from Aigle with a decisive attack in the final meters.

Wiebes launched her sprint approximately 200 meters from the finish, successfully holding off her rivals and raising her arms in celebration as she crossed the line. This marked her seventh Tour de France stage win and her first while wearing the yellow leader's jersey. Italian rider Elisa Balsamo of Lidl-Trek finished second, followed by the Dutch veteran Marianne Vos, 39, in third place.

The stage unfolded largely as anticipated, culminating in a sprint finish despite a late solo effort from Riejanne Markus. Markus broke away with about 40 kilometres remaining and briefly held a one-minute lead before being caught just under 500 meters from the finish line. Wiebes, who won the points classification last year, was the clear favorite in the final sprint.

With her stage victory, Wiebes earned a 10-second time bonus, increasing her overall lead to 14 seconds ahead of Kimberley Le Court of Mauritius. 2023 champion Demi Vollering sits third, two seconds further behind.

Wiebes credited her team for the win, noting the group's relentless pace in the closing kilometres to chase down Markus and set her up for the sprint. "Winning in yellow makes it for sure special, but also because, again, our team worked really hard for it," she said.

The race resumes Monday with stage three, a 156.5-kilometre route from Geneva to Poligny in France.
