Qatar’s Family Consulting Center (Wifaq) has partnered with Qatar University (QU) to launch a new program designed to support newly married students during the first year of marriage. The initiative aims to promote family well-being by fostering strong marital relationships through awareness and counseling sessions focused on practical skills and self-awareness.

The First Year of Marriage program addresses key areas such as communication, conflict management, recognizing differences between partners, and encouraging dialogue and cooperation in the early stages of marriage. Sessions are delivered by specialists in family and social counseling and combine evidence-based guidance with interactive learning techniques. The program’s goal is to help couples navigate common challenges and build foundations for long-term family stability, aligning with the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030.

Lulwa Al Yazidi, Director of Wifaq’s Community Outreach Department, described the program as part of the center’s preventive approach to supporting couples from the onset of married life. She highlighted the importance of investing in strong marital relationships to ensure enduring family stability. Al Yazidi also noted that collaborating with Qatar University demonstrates Wifaq’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with national and academic institutions to raise family awareness and reach target groups within educational environments. She affirmed that Wifaq plans to continue developing counseling and awareness programs to address the evolving needs of Qatari families and enhance its preventive role in fostering cohesive family units.

From Qatar University, Abdulla Hamid Almulla, Director of the Student Activities Department, emphasized the institution’s dedication to offering a comprehensive student experience that supports psychological and social well-being alongside academic achievement. He noted that preparing students for their future involves not only academic and professional development but also equipping them with the skills to build stable and strong families, contributing to societal cohesion. Almulla added that the strong participation in the program reflected growing awareness among students about the importance of family preparation and their commitment to balancing family life with academic responsibilities.

The collaboration between Wifaq and Qatar University represents a coordinated effort to support young couples in navigating the early phase of marriage, fostering family resilience, and contributing to broader societal goals under Qatar’s national development framework.
