Wigan Warriors have strongly condemned racist abuse directed at Junior Nsemba following their victory over St Helens at the Magic Weekend event in Liverpool on Sunday. The Super League club described the offensive social media comments as “appalling” and confirmed that they have been reported to both the Rugby Football League and the police.

In an official statement, Wigan emphasized their zero-tolerance stance on racism, underscoring that no individual should face such abuse, whether online, in person, or in any other context. The club reiterated its commitment to creating an inclusive environment for all players and supporters.

Wigan’s head coach Matt Peet also addressed the incident, saying the behaviour did not reflect the values of the club. Peet highlighted that those responsible were “hiding behind phones and keyboards” and extended an open invitation for dialogue, offering to engage in conversations with anyone who expressed racist views. He added that the sport itself is “too good” to be tainted by such conduct.

The abuse occurred in the aftermath of the team’s match against St Helens at the Magic Weekend, an annual rugby league event that brings together clubs from across the Super League. The incident has sparked wider discussions about racism in sports and the ongoing efforts to combat discrimination both on and off the field.
