Wigan secured second place in the Super League standings with a dominant 10th consecutive victory, overcoming Toulouse in a match marked by errors from the visiting side. England half-back Harry Smith was instrumental, contributing eight successful goal kicks as the Warriors capitalized on Toulouse’s mistakes.

The game included a highlight 80-metre try, a coordinated effort between Bevan French and Jai Field, after French kicked through for Field to score. Wigan's coach Matt Peet praised his team's performance, emphasizing the balance between allowing player creativity and maintaining discipline. “The fact is that some of the players we’ve got are the reason the stadium is full,” Peet said. “We’ve got talent but it’s about players getting the balance right between freedom to express themselves and getting the boring stuff right. When you zoom out, the season’s looking exciting.”

Wigan now faces a crucial run of five matches that will determine the League Leaders’ Shield, with upcoming games against current leaders Leeds and third-placed Wakefield.

Toulouse took an early lead through Paul Ulberg before Zach Eckersley responded with the first of his two tries for Wigan. French’s try then gave the Warriors the advantage, followed by Liam Marshall scoring the first of his two tries. Despite this, Toulouse briefly regained momentum, troubling Wigan’s defense and scoring through Romeo Tropis and Cesar Rouge.

However, Toulouse’s difficulties were compounded by penalties and errors. A penalty conceded allowed Field to set up Noah Hodkinson for a try, and after a high tackle from James Roumanos on Smith, Wigan’s Sam Eseh scored. Brad O’Neill was temporarily sent to the sin bin for a tip tackle, and Sam Walters narrowly escaped sanction for pulling an opponent’s hair, but Toulouse was unable to turn these opportunities into points.

Toulouse coach Sylvain Houles acknowledged that errors were a significant factor in their defeat but also felt some referee decisions were harsh. “The errors cost us but on a few occasions, calls were a bit harsh. Our boys dug deep,” he said.

Marshall’s second try sealed the Warriors’ victory and consolidated their position near the top of the Super League table as the season enters a critical phase.
