Will Mellor, the British actor known for his extensive television career, has reflected on his personal and professional life ahead of the release of his memoir, *Where There’s a Will: My Story*, set to be published on November 5.
Born in Stockport, Greater Manchester, Mellor began his acting career at 16 with a role on *Brookside* and gained wider recognition as Jambo in the Channel 4 soap *Hollyoaks* in 1995. Over the years, he has appeared in a variety of television dramas and comedies, including *Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps*, *Line of Duty*, and more recently, he was a regular cast member on *Coronation Street* from 2021. His recent work also includes dramas such as *Mr Bates vs the Post Office* and *A Woman of Substance*, in addition to presenting factual programmes like *Convictions Gone Bad*.
Mellor, now 50, lives in Buckinghamshire with his wife, Michelle, with whom he has raised two children. He describes his family as his greatest achievement and says his biggest fear is letting them down. Throughout the interview, Mellor candidly shares insights about his life and personality, noting his energetic nature and candidly admitting certain physical insecurities, including his “bent nose” and growing ears.
Reflecting on personal loss, Mellor expressed a wish to bring back his late father, who died during the COVID-19 pandemic, before he had the chance to say goodbye. He revealed that he would cast Ryan Gosling to play him in any film adaptation of his life.
Mellor also spoke about some of the more challenging aspects of his career, recalling how a comment from someone in the music industry—“You’ve changed”—led him to leave the music business behind to focus on acting. While fame has long appealed to him as an “attention-seeker,” Mellor acknowledges his preference for a stable family life over other pursuits. One notable regret he shared involved a complicated paternity situation, where a woman claimed he was the father of her child; genetic testing later disproved this, but he said he wished he could have changed the circumstances due to the impact on the child involved.
Regarding his public profile, Mellor described himself as enjoying the spotlight but also shared a humble view on how he would like to be remembered: “with a smile.” He also discussed personal habits and quirks, including an honest admission of a less appealing habit and overusing a phrase about patience and perseverance prompted by a lengthy home renovation project.
Mellor's memoir is expected to provide further detailed insight into his life, career, and the experiences that have shaped him as both an actor and a family man.
