Wingate & Finchley secured their second consecutive victory with a 4-1 home win against Stanway Rovers in the Isthmian Premier League on Sunday.
The hosts started strongly, continuing the momentum built in their previous match against Ramsgate. They applied pressure early, repeatedly breaking through Stanway’s defensive lines, though several attempts were thwarted by the offside trap. The breakthrough came in the 34th minute when Gianluca Botti capitalized on an error to score his first goal since returning to the team.
Shortly after, Wingate doubled their lead on 37 minutes with a swift counterattack. Joseph Johnson provided a deft pass to Anointed Chukwu, who finished confidently, putting the Blues firmly in control.
Stanway responded quickly, with Tyrese Osbourne pulling a goal back before halftime to reduce the deficit to 2-1. Despite their efforts, the visitors struggled to maintain consistent pressure against a well-organized Wingate side.
The hosts extended their advantage in the 68th minute from a polished team move, with Ashley Nzala and Johnson combining effectively before Nzala found the net. Later in the match, Casey Shann sealed the victory with an expertly placed shot to the bottom corner, securing a comprehensive 4-1 win for Wingate & Finchley.
This result lifts Wingate to 11th place in the Isthmian Premier League standings, while Stanway Rovers remain at the bottom of the table with just one win in 11 matches so far this season.
