Trainer Bjorn Baker is preparing Warwoven, the recent Golden Rose winner, for a challenging Group 1 campaign, with the colt set to compete in both the Caulfield Guineas and potentially the Cox Plate later this month. Warwoven will travel to Melbourne this week as the $2.50 favourite for the $3 million Caulfield Guineas, a 1600-meter race scheduled for October 26. The colt is also listed as an $11 contender for the prestigious $6 million Cox Plate, a 2040-meter event at Flemington on October 24.

Baker expressed strong confidence in Warwoven’s current condition and potential. “He has come through the Golden Rose great,” Baker said, highlighting the colt’s composure and attitude. Describing Warwoven as “bombproof” and possibly a “once in a lifetime colt,” the trainer noted the horse’s promising recovery and preparation. Earlier in the week, Warwoven completed a controlled, left-handed gallop that prioritized easing the horse back into training rather than exertion. Baker indicated plans for a further gallop with a companion horse on Tuesday to build fitness ahead of upcoming races.

Looking ahead to the Cox Plate, Baker acknowledged the fixture as a realistic goal contingent on Warwoven’s continued progress. “You have to dream and that’s what the race is about,” Baker remarked, referencing the colt’s pedigree and temperament. Warwoven’s dam was a Group 2 winner at 2000 meters, a factor that supports the colt’s potential over longer distances. Baker also praised Warwoven’s ability to remain calm and handle pressure, qualities demonstrated in the Golden Rose.

For now, the focus remains on incremental development as Warwoven targets back-to-back high-profile races in Melbourne’s spring carnival, with his connections hopeful he can maintain his upward trajectory.
