Lando Norris reflected on the moment he secured his maiden Formula One World Championship title during an interview at the Hilton hotel in Abu Dhabi, adjacent to the Yas Marina Circuit where he clinched victory. The young driver described the experience as almost surreal, recounting how flashes of his early years in motorsport—beginning with go-karting and even quad biking—played vividly in his mind during the last two laps of the race.
Norris needed to finish third to guarantee the championship and said he felt as if he was observing himself from a “bird’s eye view,” likening the sensation to that of watching his own life unfold like a montage. “I was remembering all of it, from the beginning, the first time I was driving the go-kart,” he said. The championship, the fulfillment of a lifelong dream, had been a central focus since childhood, even before he fully understood the scale of Formula One.
Following his victory, Norris celebrated late into the night with family and close friends, sharing moments filled with laughter and song. He humorously recalled his father, Adam, dancing during the festivities, calling it “horrific scenes.” The celebrations concluded at dawn with a visit to McDonald’s, where Norris opted for a sausage and egg breakfast, noting the absence of his usual post-race McNuggets due to the early hour.
Despite the life-changing nature of becoming a world champion, Norris emphasized that his core personality remains unchanged. “Winning the title is going to change my life,” he said, “and in some ways I hope it does because it’s cool people say I’m a world champion and I get my name on a pretty incredible list. But it isn’t going to change me as a person.”
Norris attributed much of his success to the support of his family, highlighting his father’s emotional investment in his journey. The pair’s connection dates back to his earliest racing experiences, including playing racing video games together at a very young age.
As messages of congratulations from sporting figures such as tennis star Novak Djokovic and football captain Harry Kane flooded in, Norris confessed he had yet to respond, still processing the magnitude of his achievement. He has also been named a favorite to win the upcoming BBC Sports Personality of the Year award, alongside golfers Rory McIlroy and Chloe Kelly, though Norris was modest about the prospect.
On the day following his triumph, Norris maintained a focused routine, preparing to participate in a tire test at the same circuit where he made history. Despite the excitement of his victory, he conveyed a commitment to continuing his career with the same determination and grounded mindset that characterized his rise in the sport.
