Connor Hellebuyck, the goaltender for the Winnipeg Jets and the recipient of the NHL’s Hart Trophy in 2025, has formally requested a trade from the team. The three-time Vezina Trophy winner made the request public on Thursday through a statement posted on the social media account of his agent, Ray Petkau, revealing that he initially asked for a trade several months ago.

In his statement, Hellebuyck expressed gratitude toward Winnipeg, where he has played his entire NHL career. He recalled the team's 2012 decision to draft him from an unusual setting, Odessa, Texas, and emphasized his commitment to proving their confidence in him was well placed. Hellebuyck indicated that he had attempted to handle his trade request discreetly while allowing the Jets time to explore options quietly but chose to make the situation public with training camp approaching.

Winnipeg Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff acknowledged Hellebuyck’s request, confirming that the goaltender had communicated his desire for a change. Cheveldayoff praised Hellebuyck’s contributions to the organization over the years and said the team continues to approach the situation thoughtfully. However, he noted there were no new developments to report at this time.

Prior to the NHL draft in June, Cheveldayoff had mentioned that the team was open to offers involving Hellebuyck but stopped short of confirming the player’s trade request. The Jets now face the challenge of managing the situation as the new season approaches, balancing respect for a key player with their roster and team-building strategies.
