A witness in the trial of Russell Brand at Southwark Crown Court described the workplace culture surrounding an alleged sexual assault and the challenges she faced in coming forward. The woman testified that if she had reported the incident to her line manager at the time, she believed the response would have been dismissive, suggesting she would have been told she was "lucky."
She explained that she was compelled to contact the police after watching a 2023 documentary detailing allegations of sexual misconduct against Brand. During her testimony, she became emotional, stating she did not expect to gain anything by reporting the alleged assault or testifying in court.
The witness also expressed confusion over the inaction of people who were present during the incident. She questioned why those who saw what happened, including both men and women, did not intervene or stop Brand. Reflecting on the event, she said she feared what might have occurred had she been alone with him, describing the experience as being “mauled” in front of others.
The trial is ongoing.
