Kahleah Copper scored 27 points and Valeriane Ayayi added a career-high 20 to lead the Phoenix Mercury to an 89-80 victory over the Toronto Winglets on Saturday afternoon at Toronto’s Scotiabank Center. The Mercury, who were playing short-handed, have now won three of their last four games, improving their record to 7-13. Phoenix started the game without Alyssa Thomas, who was serving a one-game suspension following an altercation with Indiana’s Caitlin Clark. Late in the fourth quarter, Noemie Brochant left the game due to an ankle injury, leaving the Mercury with only eight healthy players by the final whistle.

Toronto, meanwhile, was also missing a key player. Star guard Marina Mabrey sat out the game due to neck spasms. Mabrey had been coming off a remarkable 53-point performance against Los Angeles in a recent game, tying for the highest single-game scoring feat in WNBA history. She was visible on the bench during the first half with a towel wrapped around her neck. The Winglets fell to 9-10 with the loss.

In Seattle, the Storm extended their winning streak to two games with a 105-90 home victory over the Atlanta Dream. Rookie Flau’jae Johnson led the Storm with 24 points and 11 rebounds, while fellow rookie Awa Fam contributed 21 points, including an efficient 5-for-6 shooting from beyond the arc. Natisha Hiedeman added 20 points as Seattle improved their record to 5-15, marking a rebound after previously enduring a franchise-record 11-game losing streak.

Atlanta was paced by Rhyne Howard’s 27 points and Angel Reese’s near double-double of 17 points and nine rebounds. Allisha Gray added 15 points for the Dream, who have now dropped three consecutive games and hold a 12-7 record. Seattle maintained control throughout the contest and extended a seven-point halftime lead with a third-quarter surge, highlighted by multiple key baskets from Johnson and a four-point play by Zia Cooke early in the fourth quarter that pushed the margin to 16 points.

Meanwhile, the Indiana Fever dominated the Los Angeles Sparks 111-87 in Indianapolis behind 26 points from Kelsey Mitchell. Four players on Indiana’s roster scored in double figures in the decisive win, which saw the Fever improve to 11-8. Despite missing star guard Caitlin Clark due to a back injury, Indiana controlled the game from start to finish.

Aliyah Boston was a standout for the Fever, scoring all 17 of her points in the first half while shooting efficiently and contributing three blocked shots. Boston also grabbed seven rebounds, tying with Lexie Hull for the team lead on the boards. Indiana took firm control in the second quarter with a 17-6 run that included a nearly four-minute scoreless stretch for Los Angeles. Raven Johnson led the team in assists with four, one of seven Fever players recording multiple assists. The Sparks fell to 8-10 with the loss.
