According to a source familiar with the matter who spoke anonymously, the players will not face disciplinary action for the bet. The video, initially shared during All-Star Weekend, showed Bueckers and Reese placing what appeared to be a personal wager on the outcome of their upcoming game. The post included a caption, “We did?” followed by a laughing emoji and a message stating that Reese would not be disciplined.

A WNBA spokesperson said the league recognized the post as an attempt at humor but stressed that all players are routinely reminded of the policy prohibiting betting on league games. “While the social media post was intended to be lighthearted, WNBA players are well aware of the league’s policies prohibiting betting on WNBA games and receive training every year reinforcing those policies,” the spokesperson said. The league emphasized it had removed the post shortly after publication and addressed the matter privately with the players involved.

The Wings and the Dream declined to comment and instead referenced the league’s statement.

The WNBA’s collective bargaining agreement expressly forbids any wagering on league contests. It grants the commissioner broad authority to impose penalties, which may include fines, suspensions, or even disqualification from the league, depending on the severity of the violation.
