A woman was killed after being struck by a garbage truck operated by the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) in Dhaka’s Korail area on Tuesday. The victim, identified as 50-year-old Meherun Begum from Sherpur in Mymensingh, died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital following the incident.

The accident took place near the T&T field in the Beltala section of the Korail slum in Mohakhali, according to Mehedi Hasan, officer-in-charge of Banani Police Station. Meherun Begum reportedly collected recyclable materials from the DNCC’s secondary transfer station (STS) in the area.

Police indicated that Meherun had hearing difficulties, which prevented her from hearing the truck’s horn. As a result, she was run over by the rear wheel of the garbage truck. Her husband, Badsha, works as a van driver, and the couple resided in a rented home near the T&T field. The authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.
