A woman in her 60s has died after attempting to rescue her dog from the sea off the coast of Lancashire. The incident occurred near Fleetwood Beach Cafe in Thornton-Cleveleys when the dog became stuck in the water. A man, also in his 60s, who was with the woman, was taken to hospital in critical condition.

HM Coastguard responded to the emergency, recovering both individuals from the sea before paramedics arrived. Both were initially treated at the scene, but the woman later died in hospital. The dog was safely recovered and was reported to be unharmed.

Lancashire Constabulary confirmed that the pair entered the water to assist the dog and subsequently encountered difficulties. The circumstances leading up to the incident remain under investigation.
