A woman has been arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery following an incident at the Diamond Hill MTR station in Hong Kong on Sunday evening. According to sources familiar with the case, the suspect, identified by her surname Lai, allegedly threatened staff at the station’s customer service centre with a ceramic knife, demanding Octopus cards and cash.
When staff declined her demands, the woman reportedly struck the glass window of the service centre with the knife, damaging the blade. After the attempted robbery failed, she fled the scene and headed toward Plaza Hollywood. Police reviewed CCTV footage and tracked her boarding a green minibus en route to Tsz Ching Estate.
Authorities followed her movements to Ching Fai House within the estate, where she was reportedly seen taking a lift to the fourth floor. Officers then executed a search warrant at a flat in the building and arrested the suspect. Upon apprehension, the woman was reportedly speaking incoherently and was subsequently taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Yau Ma Tei for medical evaluation.
During the search of the premises, investigators discovered an appointment slip from a psychiatric centre of a public hospital, suggesting the suspect may have existing mental health concerns. The police have classified the incident as an attempted robbery and indicated that their investigation is ongoing.
