A 56-year-old woman from Essex has shared her experience of spending £4,000 on prescription weight-loss injections, ultimately losing less than 12 pounds over 15 months before transitioning to a traditional diet plan that yielded more significant results.

Karen Lay began her weight-loss journey weighing 16 stone and wearing a size 18. Initially, she used Wegovy, a medication designed to aid weight loss, but after nine months she reported losing only around 4 pounds. Subsequently, she switched to Mounjaro and noted her appetite was “almost non-existent,” yet she still lost just about 7 pounds during the following six months.

Lay expressed frustration with the limited progress despite the high financial cost, stating, “It’s hard when you’ve spent thousands and seeing others [on jabs] lose six to seven stone in less time.” After discontinuing the injections, she turned to the 1:1 Diet, a structured nutritional program, which she credits with helping her shed 2 stone and reduce her clothing size to a 12 within a year.

The financial services worker has spoken publicly to caution others against viewing these weight-loss injections as an effortless or guaranteed solution. Her experience highlights the variation in individual responses to such treatments and the importance of managing expectations when considering medical interventions for weight loss.
