The Women’s Padel Championship for Government and Private Institutions 2026 commenced Sunday at the WPA Padel Club, located at the Oman Automobile Association in Muscat. The four-day event, running through November 4, features six participating institutions competing in a team format, with each team comprising four female players.

Organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth (MoCSY) through its Women Sports Department, the tournament aims to foster collaboration between government and private sectors while promoting women’s involvement in sports across the country. The participating institutions include the General Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones, Royal Court Affairs, Muscat Municipality, Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), Occidental, and KPMG.

Following a random draw, the six teams were divided into two groups of three, engaging in a round-robin competition. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semifinals scheduled for Tuesday, where group winners are set to face the runners-up from the opposite group. The championship will conclude on Wednesday, November 4, with the final and third-place matches.

Officials from the Oman Padel Committee are overseeing the technical and organizational aspects of the championship. Lina al Zadjali, CEO of the Oman Padel Committee and member of the championship’s technical committee, explained that the committee is responsible for arranging match schedules, clarifying rules to participants, and supervising refereeing and other technical elements throughout the event.

Several participants expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity to compete. Ayan al Mundhiri, representing PDO, described the event as her first sporting experience of this kind with the company. “This is my first participation in a sporting event organised by PDO, and I was encouraged by the company’s continued presence in women’s sports competitions,” she remarked, adding that padel’s combination of activity, excitement, and social interaction made the championship a valuable experience.

The championship represents an effort to build a sustainable platform for women’s padel in Oman, contributing to the broader development of women’s sports and encouraging higher participation rates from both government and private sector institutions. Organizers hope that such initiatives will enhance the visibility and accessibility of women’s sports programs throughout the country.
