The winners of the 2026 Women’s Shooting Championship and Youth Heavy Weapons Championship were honored at a ceremony held Sunday evening at the Action Point shooting range in Oman. Dr Laila bint Ahmed al Najjar, Minister of Social Development, presided over the event attended by Brigadier Jamal bin Said al Tai, Chairman of the Oman Automobile Association, along with officials and representatives from supporting organisations.
A visual presentation at the start of the ceremony reviewed key highlights from the three competition rounds, detailing the stages and technical arrangements involved. The championships were organised by the Oman Shooting Club in partnership with the Oman Automobile Association.
The women’s competition comprised two categories—pistol and rifle—with three winners recognized in each. In the pistol event, Alia bint al Ruwais al Amri took first place, followed by Muzna bint Khamis al Balushi in second and Amal bint Abdullah al Balushi in third. The rifle category saw Bushra bint Saleh al Hooti secure first place, while Amal bint Abdullah al Balushi placed second and Muzna bint Khamis al Balushi came third.
In the youth heavy weapons championship, Faisal bin Ali al Jabri finished first, ahead of Said bin Muslim al Sarihi in second and Mohammed bin Nasser al Najidi in third. Salim bin Humaid al Nueimi and Auf bin Khasib al Aufi placed fourth and fifth, respectively. Participants in this event, aged 16 and above, competed using rifles chambered in 5.56mm (.223) and 7.62mm (.308), equipped with scopes and rests. The format included eight rounds per shooter—two practice shots followed by six scored attempts—conducted from a seated position using club-provided ammunition to ensure fairness.
The women’s pistol competition emphasized balance, concentration, and precision control, while the rifle event focused on stability and correct positioning to enhance accuracy.
The championships coincided with both Omani Women Day and Omani Youth Day, underscoring the country’s commitment to promoting sports opportunities for women and young people. Organizers highlighted the importance of developing shooting skills and providing a platform for competitors to demonstrate their abilities in a structured environment.
During the ceremony, sponsors were acknowledged for their support, including the National Bank of Oman, Platinum Shield United, and Dhofar Insurance. Social media influencer Aisha al Shidi was also recognized for her role in promoting the championships and supporting the participants.
