Crystal Palace manager Pierre Sage has expressed confidence that midfielder Adam Wharton will earn numerous caps for the England national team in the future. Despite Wharton’s potential, the 22-year-old was omitted from the recent England squad for the Nations League matches and was not included in the World Cup roster.

Wharton, who previously played for Blackburn Rovers, currently has four appearances for the national team but has yet to feature under England head coach Thomas Tuchel. Speaking ahead of Crystal Palace’s upcoming match against Leeds United, Sage highlighted Wharton’s unique style and vision on the field.

“He is different because he sees the play like nobody else,” Sage said. “He is able to play one touch and to unbalance the other team. He always looks for the last line, to open up defenses.”

Sage suggested that Wharton’s absence from the national setup at this stage is indicative of the high level of talent available to England. “If a player of this quality is not yet in the national team, it’s a good thing because it shows there is a lot of quality,” he remarked.

The midfielder’s ability to read the game and create opportunities is seen by Sage as a key asset that will eventually secure Wharton a regular place in the England squad. However, under Tuchel’s current selection, Wharton remains on the periphery as he continues to develop his game with Crystal Palace.
