After three years of renovations, the Woodlands Community Club (CC) officially reopened on July 26, unveiling expanded facilities and an increased range of programmes for residents. The renovation project, which began in January 2023, aims to enhance community engagement, promote cultural heritage, and support healthy living in the Woodlands area.
The reopening event attracted over 2,000 participants, including volunteers, residents, donors, and community partners. It began with a symbolic “homecoming walk” from Woodlands Galaxy CC to the newly renovated premises. Among the guests were Coordinating Minister for Social Policies and Minister for Health Ong Ye Kung, as well as Mariam Jaafar, Member of Parliament for Sembawang Group Representation Constituency (GRC), who oversees the Woodlands division.
The upgraded community club now features a range of new facilities. Notably, the kitchen has been expanded from a single cooking station to 13, allowing participants to cook alongside instructors rather than only observe demonstrations during cooking classes. Mariam Jaafar noted that this improvement was driven by resident feedback. She also highlighted the enhanced fitness offerings at the club, designed to encourage greater physical activity among the local Malay and Muslim communities. Existing programmes like Kelab Kesihatan Woodlands now include various exercise classes such as Zumba A-go-go and Rhythmic Yoga Flow.
Residents expressed enthusiasm about the revamped venue. Woodlands resident New Siew Seng, 82, who attends Zumba classes weekly, described the community club as more spacious with facilities spread across multiple levels. She added that she looks forward to participating in more of the new activities available.
During the event, Ong Ye Kung and Mariam Jaafar toured the upgraded premises and contributed to a seven-meter batik painting that will be displayed within the club. Attendees also engaged in over 50 interactive activities, distributed throughout the club’s four levels.
The People’s Association, which manages the community club, emphasized that the facility will serve as a hub for social bonding, cultural preservation, and health promotion in the Woodlands neighborhood.
