FujiFilm’s newly established House of Photography has officially opened in Rosedale, Auckland, and is quickly becoming a notable hub for the city’s photographic and creative communities. The venue launched with a slate of events designed to engage both emerging artists and established professionals in the field.
On Friday, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., in partnership with the Auckland Festival of Photography, the House hosted “Talking Culture,” a session featuring an international panel of photography experts. The event brought together Lissa Mitchell, curator and writer at New Zealand’s Te Papa museum; Shen Chao-Liang, a photojournalist and founder of Taipei-based Photo ONE; and Hideko Kataoka, a photo editor and curator who formerly served as Director of Photography for Newsweek Japan.
The program combined a meet-and-greet with these prominent figures, followed by portfolio reviews, offering photographers the opportunity for direct feedback and engagement. This approach aims to provide emerging photographers and creative practitioners with access to global perspectives and insights, fostering growth and dialogue within the local arts scene.
The House of Photography’s opening and its collaboration with the Auckland Festival of Photography mark a significant development in New Zealand’s photographic landscape, highlighting the growing interest and investment in visual storytelling at both national and international levels.
