Qatar’s Public Works Authority (Ashghal) is progressing with the construction of a new rainwater pump station in Semaisma aimed at bolstering sustainable infrastructure and improving the efficiency of the area’s rainwater drainage network. The project is part of broader efforts to enhance urban development, road safety, and overall quality of life in the region.
According to Eng Ali Mostafawi, project engineer at Ashghal’s Drainage Networks Projects Department, the initiative involves establishing an advanced rainwater collection and drainage system through the installation of a modern pump station. This facility will be integrated into the existing rainwater drainage network currently under development in Semaisma as part of the Semaisma Project, Package 4.
The new pump station will collect rainwater and channel it to a designated storage location for future reuse, supporting more efficient water resource management and environmental sustainability. It is designed to serve key thoroughfares, including Semaisma Main Street and Semaisma West Street, forming an integrated system to better prepare the area for the rainy season by mitigating the accumulation of stormwater.
By addressing potential flooding and water pooling, the project aims to maintain smoother traffic flow and ensure uninterrupted service during rainfall events, thereby enhancing road safety for residents and commuters alike. The scope also includes the construction of necessary supporting infrastructure to connect the pump station to Semaisma’s broader stormwater drainage network.
These enhancements are expected to reduce the risk of flooding and improve the overall resilience of the drainage system. They align with objectives to support ongoing population growth and urban expansion in Semaisma, ensuring infrastructure services meet both current demands and future needs.
Work on the Semaisma rainwater pump station is continuing steadily as part of Qatar’s commitment to advancing infrastructure development and environmental responsibility in its urban areas.
