Construction has officially begun on a new building for SJKT Sungai Bakap in Penang, resolving a delay that has persisted since 2015. The project had been stalled due to various complications, including a legal challenge directed at the Education Ministry, which the courts ultimately dismissed.

The RM12.6 million development, located in Nibong Tebal, is managed by Yayasan Didik Negara and will feature six classrooms, a staff room, a resource centre, and additional facilities to support the school’s operations.

During a recent groundbreaking ceremony, Education Minister Datuk Seri Fadhlina Sidek, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for Nibong Tebal, handed over the Letter of Acceptance to the school’s management. She expressed satisfaction at the progress and noted that the construction is expected to be completed within 56 weeks.

Penang state executive councillor Datuk Seri Sundarajoo Somu also addressed the gathering, highlighting that the Madani government has initiated work on two Tamil school projects within the state since assuming office. This move forms part of a broader effort to enhance educational infrastructure for the Tamil community in Penang.
