His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar, continued to receive an array of regional and international leaders offering condolences on the passing of His Highness the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. The receptions took place at Lusail Palace on Wednesday, marking the third day of official mourning in Qatar.
Among the dignitaries who paid their respects were President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein of Jordan, President Mahmoud Abbas of the State of Palestine, and Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu of France. Other notable attendees included President Dr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier of Germany, President Mikheil Kavelashvili of Georgia, HRH Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh, and high-ranking officials from Yemen, Senegal, Nepal, Sri Lanka, the Kurdistan Regional Government of Iraq, Kyrgyzstan, Cuba, and Tajikistan.
The UAE delegation accompanying President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan included Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Tahnoun bin Zayed Al Nahyan, as well as several senior sheikhs and officials. Additionally, the ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, HH Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, along with his Crown Prince HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, also attended the condolences.
The gatherings highlighted widespread international respect for the late Father Amir, acknowledging his enduring leadership in Qatar’s development and his role in fostering regional stability and international cooperation. Officials expressed their sympathies to HH the Amir, the ruling Al Thani family, and the people of Qatar, praying for the late leader’s mercy and eternal peace.
High-level Qatari officials present at the receptions included HH the Deputy Amir Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Thani, HH Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, and Shura Council Speaker HE Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim, alongside several sons of the late Father Amir and prominent sheikhs.
On the same day, Indian Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju visited Doha to personally convey condolences on behalf of the Indian government and people. Meeting HH the Amir on Tuesday, the minister emphasized the close ties between India and Qatar, recalling the Father Amir’s three visits to India and his efforts to strengthen bilateral relations. Rijiju also noted the impact of the late leader’s contributions on the large Indian diaspora in Qatar, which numbers over 800,000, describing the community’s deep respect and sorrow.
Reflecting the significance of the Father Amir’s legacy, the Government of India declared 13 July 2026 a day of national mourning, with the national flag flown at half-mast on government buildings and suspension of official entertainment throughout the country.
Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, who ruled Qatar from 1995 until his voluntary abdication in 2013, is widely credited with transforming Qatar into a dynamic economy and elevating its diplomatic stature worldwide. His leadership is remembered for visionary reforms that propelled Qatar’s development and for nurturing broad regional and international relations.
