Skye Blakely of the United States captured the women's all-around title at the World Gymnastics Championships on Friday, delivering a series of strong routines as some of her top rivals faltered. The 21-year-old athlete from Dallas earned a total score of 55.733 points, anchored by an impressive performance on the uneven bars and a steady balance beam routine free of major errors.

Blakely’s victory marks a significant comeback after injuries prevented her from making the U.S. Olympic teams in both 2020 and 2024. Overcome with emotion, she appeared tearful after completing her floor exercise in the final rotation, reflecting on the long recovery periods that challenged her physically and mentally. “Throughout the meet, I was telling myself, ‘Do it for the girl in 2021 and the girl in 2024 who couldn’t do everything, just fight for her,’” Blakely said. “I made every version of myself extremely proud.”

The silver medal was awarded to Liudmila Roshchina of Russia, who finished with a score of 55.199 points. Ke Qinqin of China earned bronze with 55.032 points. Algeria’s Kaylia Nemour narrowly missed making history as the first African gymnast to win a world all-around title, finishing in fourth place.

Another American contender, Claire Pease, was unable to join Blakely on the podium after a misstep on the balance beam contributed to her seventh-place finish.

Blakely’s triumph highlights her resilience and marks a significant milestone in her gymnastics career amid the highly competitive field at this year’s World Championships.
