Worthing extended their unbeaten run in the National League to eight matches with a comprehensive 5-0 victory over Solihull Moors on Saturday. The match, played at Worthing’s home ground, saw the Rebels rise to fifth place in the league standings, driven by a standout performance from their new signing Jordan Young, who provided three assists.
Young, who recently joined from Torquay United, orchestrated much of the attacking play, setting up two goals for Corey Adjetey-Brew and one each for Razzaq Coleman De-Graft, Ricky Aguiar, and Dom Hutchinson. Adjetey-Brew, on loan from QPR, netted a brace and earned particular praise from Worthing manager Adam Hinshelwood for his energetic and versatile display.
“Just to see how much he’s grown; he’s played in a variety of positions and it’s really exciting at a club to see a young talent like that really improve and showcase what they can do,” Hinshelwood said of Adjetey-Brew.
Despite Worthing’s dominance, Solihull began the game on the front foot and came close to scoring early on. Scott High intercepted a poor pass from Aguiar to set up Joe Sbarra, whose effort was off target. The hosts took the lead in the 28th minute when Young delivered a precise ball that Adjetey-Brew controlled before finishing past goalkeeper Max Metcalfe.
The goal invigorated Worthing, with Young playing a key role in further scoring chances. He forced a save from Metcalfe before threading a pass through for Coleman De-Graft to score, doubling the lead. Aguiar then struck a powerful shot from 20 yards that was pushed onto the post before Young’s cleverly delivered corner found Aguiar, who scored from the edge of the penalty area to make it 3-0 just before halftime.
Solihull made a triple substitution at the start of the second half, including replacing goalkeeper Metcalfe, and immediately showed signs of improvement. Substitute Ben Wodskou forced a save from Worthing keeper Taylor Seymour, who also denied attempts from High and Sbarra. However, efforts from Marvin Johnson were off target, and the visitors were unable to reduce the deficit.
Hinshelwood responded midway through the second half with his own tactical changes. Dom Hutchinson, returning from international duty with Turks and Caicos, tested the substitute goalkeeper Nathaniel Ford before Adjetey-Brew scored his second goal by capitalizing on a rebound. Hutchinson added a fifth goal late in the match by maneuvering through the Solihull defense and finishing from a tight angle.
The defeat leaves Solihull Moors, who have conceded 35 goals this season, facing continued defensive challenges, while Worthing’s confidence and league position continue to rise amid their impressive unbeaten streak.
