Two weeks after their wedding at Villa Valguarnera in Sicily, singer Dua Lipa and actor Callum Turner have unveiled photographs from their ceremony, showcasing a custom-made wedding gown by Chanel. This dress marks the first bridal creation under the direction of Chanel’s artistic director Matthieu Blazy.
The gown exemplifies the expertise of Chanel’s couture ateliers, combining intricate handcraftsmanship with innovative design. The dress features a fitted bodice with a halter neckline and a low back embellished with jewels. Atelier Montex artisans hand-embroidered approximately 480,000 beads, while needlework by Lesage involved over 1,100 hours creating trompe l’oeil jewels. The skirt and two-meter train are adorned with 25,000 feathers supplied by Lemarié, paired with a six-meter-long tulle veil embroidered with beads, feathers, and hand-cut organza appliqués. Completing the ensemble were custom white satin pumps crafted by Massaro, a maison also under the Chanel group.
Chanel described the gown as the product of a close collaboration with Lipa, enabled by exceptional craftsmanship. The wedding dress was the highlight among several bespoke outfits Lipa wore throughout the celebrations. She also donned a Schiaparelli suit inspired by Bianca Jagger for the civil ceremony in London’s Marylebone Old Town Hall, and a woven leather dress by Bottega Veneta for a pre-wedding event.
Recent industry commentary has noted a shift in luxury fashion toward highly skilled artisanal work, viewed as an emergent status symbol distinct from trends such as stealth wealth or AI-generated design. Blazy’s ability to blend technical mastery with a sense of lightness is seen as a defining quality of his work. Lipa’s youthful energy and modern sensibility further reflect a new generation’s approach to couture, underscoring the creative synergy between artist and maison evident in the wedding dress.
The dress has been widely praised for its combination of traditional craftsmanship and contemporary elegance, representing a significant moment for Chanel’s haute couture under Blazy’s leadership.
