Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has indicated that the club’s squad rebuild is nearing completion, with the team striking a balance between experienced players and emerging talent. Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s upcoming Premier League match against Brighton, Alonso said the team is “quite close to the plan we had” for this season.

At 44 years old, Alonso has overseen significant changes to the squad, bringing in seasoned veterans such as midfielder Jordan Henderson, 36, and striker Danny Welbeck, 35, to add leadership and experience. Alongside these arrivals, Chelsea have also invested in promising Premier League players Morgan Rogers and Maxence Lacroix, aiming to blend youth with maturity.

The club has also generated considerable transfer revenue by selling players deemed surplus to requirements. Notably, forwards Nicolas Jackson and Liam Delap have been sold for fees that could collectively reach £115 million. Additionally, the departure of midfielder Enzo Fernandez appears imminent, as the player has reportedly expressed a desire to leave.

Alonso acknowledged that while the rebuild is progressing well, there may still be adjustments ahead. “We will see where we finish, if it’s fully executed or there are things still to be done or things we couldn’t do,” he said. “But I think overall the balance of what we have is going to be good. We have to see how the last few days develop. But so far the team is coming together. It is a process that will take time. We are in a good position, with a few more days to see.”
