The Yangon Region government has launched a rice export zone initiative aimed at increasing summer paddy exports. This effort involves collaboration between the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, the Myanmar Rice Federation, local exporters, and farmers.

The project spans 37 villages across eight townships within five districts of Yangon Region. More than 700 farmers are participating, cultivating summer paddy on approximately 118 acres designated as rice export zones. To support these farmers, the Department of Agriculture has supplied organic fertilizer, while the Myanmar Rice Federation has provided drum seeders to enhance planting efficiency.

Under this program, the Myanmar Rice Federation will purchase the harvested summer paddy from these designated zones at market prices. The federation has also secured export agreements with various foreign countries, through which the rice produced will be shipped.

Officials involved in the project expect the coordinated approach to significantly boost rice exports by increasing the quality and volume of summer paddy production within Yangon Region. This initiative reflects ongoing efforts by the government and industry stakeholders to strengthen Myanmar’s agricultural export sector.
