Rashad Al-Alimi, head of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council, has called for international action against the Houthi militias amid escalating attacks targeting civilian infrastructure and regional stability. In a statement published recently, Al-Alimi accused the Houthis of attacking airports and homes while disrupting essential supplies, actions he said risk civilian lives and undermine security across the region.

Highlighting what he described as a growing threat, Al-Alimi warned that insufficient measures to counter the group provide the militia with greater opportunities to commit further atrocities. He urged the international community to support efforts to designate the Houthis as a global terrorist organization, paralleling the unified approaches taken previously against groups like Daesh, Al-Qaeda, and Boko Haram.

According to Al-Alimi, the Houthis employ tactics characteristic of terrorist organizations, and have even expanded the range and severity of their threats. He cited the group's use of child recruitment, land mines, improvised explosive devices on roads and vehicles, missile and suicide drone strikes directed at civilians and critical infrastructure, attacks on commercial shipping, threats to international navigation routes, and the kidnapping of United Nations and humanitarian workers.

The Yemeni leader stressed the necessity of a proportional international response, advocating for concrete actions beyond mere condemnation. He outlined key steps including the enforcement of existing international resolutions, prevention of arms and technology transfers to the militias, interruption of their funding channels, and the neutralization of their capacity to threaten Yemen, its neighbors, and broader global security.

Al-Alimi reaffirmed the continuation of Operation "Dawn of Yemen," a military campaign aimed at restoring state institutions and countering Houthi advances. He maintained that despite ongoing missile and drone attacks, neither the Yemeni population nor its government will be deterred in their efforts to rebuild the state or allow the militias to suppress the aspirations of the Yemeni people.
