Yemeni armed forces intensified operations against Houthi fighters across Taiz province, conducting 71 targeted attacks on militia gatherings, military positions, and reinforcements, according to military officials on Saturday. These actions aimed to disrupt Houthi attempts to strengthen their control in the region, including efforts to besiege Taiz city.
A military commander stationed in Jabal Han, a strategic mountain area near Taiz, said Houthi forces had repeatedly tried to infiltrate and seize the location to encircle the city. The commander confirmed that Yemeni forces repelled these attempts and that clashes persisted overnight. “We broke the Houthi attempts to control Jabal Han in order to besiege the city of Taiz,” he stated.
In addition to ground operations, Yemeni warplanes conducted airstrikes against Houthi positions on the Haifan and Rasen fronts, located south of Taiz. These strikes targeted militia movements and reinforcements, further weakening the group's operational capacity in the area.
The armed forces also secured control of Samah Fort in southeastern Taiz after intense fighting with Houthi militants. A military source told state news agency Saba that the fort was captured with the support of local popular resistance fighters from Samah district. The offensive reportedly resulted in dozens of Houthi casualties, with some fighters retreating from the scene.
Separately, the Yemeni military launched a series of airstrikes targeting Houthi positions in the capital, Sanaa. Colonel Majed Al-Nazili, the armed forces’ official spokesperson, said the strikes demonstrated the forces’ ability to conduct strategic attacks within Houthi-held areas. Following the operations, heavy explosions were reported across the city, accompanied by increased military aircraft activity overhead.
The armed forces reported that overall, 257 precision attacks had been carried out across the Taiz fronts, inflicting significant losses on Houthi fighters. The strikes reportedly killed or wounded at least 700 combatants and destroyed approximately 170 vehicles and other military equipment. These developments represent a continued push by Yemeni government forces and allied local resistance groups to regain territory and counter Houthi advances in the province.
