Yemeni political leaders have expressed strong appreciation for Kuwait’s ongoing humanitarian and development assistance, underscoring the significance of regional coordination in addressing challenges posed by the conflict in Yemen.
Ahmed bin Dagher, Speaker of the Yemeni Shura Council, and Sultan Al-Barakani, Speaker of Yemen’s Parliament, conveyed their remarks during separate meetings with Kuwait’s Ambassador to Yemen, Falah Al-Mutairi, held in Aden. The discussions centered on bilateral cooperation, recent developments in Yemen, and the broader regional situation.
Bin Dagher highlighted Kuwait’s consistent support across various phases of Yemen’s crisis, describing its contributions as emblematic of the longstanding historical and fraternal bonds between the two nations. He also acknowledged the role of the Saudi-led coalition backing Yemen’s internationally recognized government, calling their assistance pivotal to efforts aimed at restoring state institutions. At the same time, bin Dagher condemned attacks by the Houthi movement on civilian facilities, including airports in Saudi Arabia. He further denounced Houthi violations within Yemen, referencing a recent assault on a military training center in Shabwa Governorate. Stressing the urgency of regional unity, he urged Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states to bolster solidarity and work collectively to confront the Houthis, whom he accused of acting in line with Iran’s regional ambitions.
Al-Barakani also lauded Kuwait’s decades-long support for the Yemeni population, particularly in sectors such as education and healthcare. He praised the partnership between Yemen and Kuwait as based on mutual support and shared responsibility. The Parliament Speaker reviewed the escalation of Houthi hostilities, citing repeated shelling of civilian neighborhoods in Taiz with what he described as Iranian-made projectiles. Al-Barakani emphasized Taiz’s resilience amid ongoing attempts by Houthi forces to seize control, underlining the city’s symbolic national and republican importance. He strongly condemned attacks on Saudi Arabia’s civilian infrastructure and airports, noting that the kingdom’s security remains integral to the stability of Yemen and the wider Arab region. He called for a coordinated regional response to any threats against Saudi territory due to their broader implications.
Ambassador Al-Mutairi reaffirmed Kuwait’s commitment to providing humanitarian aid and development support aimed at improving conditions in Yemen and contributing to its security and stability. He emphasized that assistance would continue through accredited channels while highlighting Kuwait’s dedication to strengthening bilateral relations to serve the interests of both countries and alleviate the hardships faced by Yemeni citizens.
The discussions reflect ongoing efforts by Yemen and Kuwait to maintain collaboration amid the complex regional dynamics influenced by the protracted Yemeni conflict.
