Rabbi David Shlomo Batzri, a noted kabbalist and founder of Yeshivat Hashalom in Jerusalem, passed away at the age of 85 on Friday after collapsing at his home in Bnei Brak. Rabbi Batzri led the yeshiva, located on Tachkemoni Street in the Mekor Baruch neighborhood, which is recognized as a significant center for the study of kabbalah.

Rabbi Batzri was widely respected for his dedication to Torah study, prayer, and the Jewish community. Rabbi Arye Deri, leader of the Shas political party, expressed his condolences, describing Batzri as a humble and righteous figure who remained supportive of Shas throughout challenging periods, including during Operation Roaring Lion. Deri highlighted a longstanding personal relationship with Rabbi Batzri, recalling frequent visits to the yeshiva and drawing strength from his spiritual guidance.

The funeral took place Friday afternoon at Sanhedria Cemetery, where Rabbi Batzri was laid to rest beside his wife, Rebbetzin Tzipora, who had passed away earlier this year before Passover. Due to the proximity to the Sukkot holiday, the funeral procession began at 2 p.m., and the customary seven-day shiva mourning period was shortened to two hours.

Rabbi Batzri had been in declining health for several years prior to his death. His passing marks the loss of a significant religious leader within the kabbalistic and broader Orthodox Jewish communities.
