The Yosemite Dome Fire, which has burned approximately 5,500 acres within Yosemite National Park, was caused by an abandoned campfire, officials reported on Tuesday. The blaze ignited around 7 a.m. on September 15, according to Cal Fire, the state’s fire protection agency.
Since its outbreak, the fire has prompted the closure of several trails in the park as firefighting efforts continue to contain the spread. On September 23, authorities closed Glacier Point Road, the access route to Glacier Point, a popular and scenic overlook within Yosemite.
Officials have emphasized that the fire could have been prevented if proper campfire safety measures had been followed. Investigation into the circumstances surrounding the abandoned fire remains ongoing as authorities work to ensure safety for visitors and prevent future incidents.
Yosemite National Park continues to monitor the situation closely, balancing visitor access with fire containment strategies amid ongoing dry conditions in the region.
