A 9-year-old American boy was attacked by multiple dogs while collecting sand on a beach in Alice Town, North Bimini Island, in the Bahamas on Tuesday morning. The incident occurred around 10:30 a.m., according to the Royal Bahamas Police Force.

Authorities reported that the boy sustained several bite wounds to his right thigh, right arm, left leg, face, and head during the attack. A male passerby intervened and was able to scare off the dogs, preventing further harm.

The child was initially treated at a local hospital, but due to the severity of his injuries, the U.S. Coast Guard arranged for him to be airlifted to Miami for further medical care. His condition remained unclear as of Wednesday.

Police have identified the dogs’ owner, who is cooperating with authorities to help locate, secure, and remove the animals. The investigation into the incident continues.
