Despite early struggles at each level, Lombard has shown resilience and a determination to improve his performance at the plate and in the field.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone expressed strong support ahead of Tuesday’s Wild Card Series opener against the Boston Red Sox. Boone described Lombard as “ready,” praising how the shortstop has managed both success and setbacks during his brief major league tenure. While Boone acknowledged the unpredictable nature of baseball, he emphasized his belief in Lombard’s skills and mental approach to the game.

Lombard’s time in the majors has not been without challenges. He experienced a streak of six consecutive games with at least one error and endured a difficult 13-game stretch in late August during which he recorded just five hits in 43 at-bats while striking out 16 times. Nevertheless, his composure and work ethic have been key factors in earning the starting role for the Yankees as they enter the playoffs.
