Raisha Adelia Rezza, a 12-year-old badminton player from Sarawak, continued her winning momentum from last year by securing two titles at the Allianz Junior Badminton Championship (AJBC) 2026 Qualifying Round 6, held recently in Miri. The SK Samarahan Estate student had previously claimed the girls’ under-11 singles title in 2025 in Kuching and added both the singles and doubles crowns in the girls’ under-13 category this weekend.
In the doubles event, Raisha partnered with Samantha Tsin Rou Yii of SMK Datuk Patinggi Haji Abdul Gapor to capture the top spot. Reflecting on her achievements, Raisha expressed confidence in her progress, describing her goal to win the under-13 titles as part of her continuing journey after last year’s under-11 success. She also noted her anticipation for the upcoming grand finals later this year, emphasizing the importance of the next few months of preparation to meet the higher level of competition.
Raisha began playing badminton at the age of eight after being introduced to the sport by her grandfather. Two years later, after training at G Force Badminton Academy in Serian, she earned a spot on the Sarawak state team. Currently competing in both singles and doubles, she is still considering which discipline to focus on as she pursues her ambition of becoming a world champion.
Other notable performers at the event included Rosella Tania Anak Rant @ Rantie from SMK Dato Permaisuri, who achieved a double victory in the girls’ under-15 category. Rosella won the singles title and, alongside partner Aizalea Izzara Kamarulzaman of SMK Three Rivers, took the doubles crown. In the boys’ under-15 divisions, Darrick Ong Shang How from SMK Kuching High dominated by winning the singles and, with Eldrin Tan Ka Fei from SMK Green Road, secured the doubles championship.
In the boys’ under-13 category, Danice Tchin Mao Quan of Chung Hua Middle School No.3 also captured both singles and doubles titles. He won the singles event and partnered with Ezra Liau Jih Loch from SMK Chung Hua to take the doubles crown.
The fifth edition of the AJBC was organized by Allianz Malaysia Bhd with support from the Badminton Association of Malaysia and the Education Ministry’s sports, co-curricular and arts division. Designed to encourage junior participation without entry fees, the tournament has quickly become one of the most anticipated youth badminton events in Malaysia, featuring 10 qualifying rounds leading up to the grand finals in Kuala Lumpur.
