A 23-year-old man was fatally attacked in Tongi, Gazipur, in the early hours of Tuesday, reportedly as a result of a longstanding dispute. The incident occurred around 1:00 a.m. near the railway tracks in the Noagaon area.

The victim, Md Joy, a resident of the Banker’s Math slum under Tongi East Police Station jurisdiction, was reportedly targeted by a group believed to be involved in a rival faction. According to police and local sources, Joy had been engaged in ongoing conflicts with this group over alleged criminal activities including drug-related offenses, mugging, and violent clashes.

On Tuesday morning, members of the opposing group reportedly cornered Joy while he was alone by the railway tracks and attacked him with sharp weapons. He sustained critical injuries and died at the scene due to excessive bleeding.

Nur Alam Hossain, sub-inspector and officer in charge of the Tongi Railway Police Outpost, said the body was recovered and taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy. Authorities have initiated legal proceedings related to the case and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack.
