YTL Power International Bhd, together with its affiliate Ganda Power and Siemens Energy, has secured reservation agreements for four additional Siemens SGT-9000HL gas turbine units. This latest agreement increases the total number of turbines reserved by YTL Power and Ganda Power to seven, intended to support power generation projects across Malaysia and the broader region with a combined capacity exceeding 5,250 megawatts.
The expansion aims to address growing energy demand driven by industrial development, electrification, and the increasing need for reliable power to support data centers and artificial intelligence (AI) applications. YTL Power emphasized that the new turbines will bolster the company’s commitment to meeting these evolving energy requirements with reliable and efficient solutions.
Datuk Seri Yeoh Seok Hong, managing director of YTL Power, highlighted the company’s three-decade partnership with Siemens Energy, which has provided a foundation of engineering excellence and long-term investment. He noted that the expanded turbine lineup enhances YTL Power and Ganda Power’s ability to deliver competitive energy services globally, especially as the AI economy and digital infrastructure continue to grow in importance.
These turbine acquisitions complement YTL Power’s broader investments in digital infrastructure, including data centers powered by Nvidia-accelerated computing through YTL AI Cloud and AI research and development via YTL AI Labs. Among the AI initiatives is Ilmu, a Malaysian large language model designed to support advanced applications. According to the company, these efforts are integral to supporting combined growth in both energy and digital sectors.
Siemens Energy described the SGT-9000HL gas turbine family as offering high efficiency, operational flexibility, and reliability, attributes critical to ensuring stable electricity supply amid a transition toward greater integration of renewable energy sources in power systems.
Karim Amin, member of the executive board of Siemens Energy AG and gas services executive vice-president, emphasized the trust and performance focus underpinning the longstanding collaboration with YTL. He further stated that the new agreements reflect a shared commitment to Malaysia’s expanding digital economy and future generation capacity. Amin underscored the importance of resilient power infrastructure to sustaining the rapid growth of data centers and enhancing the country’s energy security.
Together, YTL Power, Ganda Power, and Siemens Energy aim to build critical infrastructure to support Malaysia’s economic development while addressing the increasing requirements of digital transformation and clean energy integration.
