Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced plans to meet with former U.S. President Donald Trump in New York as diplomatic efforts to revive peace talks between Ukraine and Russia gain momentum. The meeting is expected to take place during the upcoming United Nations General Assembly, where both leaders will be present.

Zelensky confirmed that he had recently spoken with Trump by phone to discuss multiple issues related to the conflict and the prospects for renewed negotiations. Writing on Telegram, Zelensky emphasized that a meeting "could achieve a lot," citing growing diplomatic momentum aimed at ending the ongoing war.

Earlier this month, Zelensky engaged with key U.S. figures, including Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner and U.S. chief negotiator Steve Witkoff, during their visit to Kiev. These contacts form part of ongoing efforts to relaunch direct talks between Ukrainian and Russian officials, with the United States playing a mediating role.

Russia has indicated that peace negotiations may resume in October. Talks had stalled over the winter and were further suspended amid the broader regional tensions following the Iran conflict.
