Zerbanoo Gifford, a prominent human rights advocate and founder of the UK-based ASHA Centre, was named a Founding Fellow of the One Humanity Lab at George Washington University’s Center for Excellence in Public Leadership. This recognition took place during the launch event for her new book, *A Call to Consciousness*, held at the GW Museum and The Textile Museum in Washington, D.C.
The event, held on April 10, 2026, drew scholars, community leaders, and members of the Zoroastrian diaspora from the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. It served as one of the first public gatherings for the One Humanity Lab, emphasizing Gifford’s role in advancing global conversations on ethics, leadership, and heightened human awareness.
* A Call to Consciousness* is described as Gifford’s most impactful work to date. Drawing on her extensive experience in activism and interfaith dialogue, the book urges readers to develop moral clarity and courage amid today’s complex global challenges. The publication has received endorsement from more than 40 global figures, including the Dalai Lama, highlighting its integration of spiritual wisdom with contemporary social relevance.
During her address, Gifford reflected on the nature of courage, framing it as a conscious choice developed through personal trials. “Fear is a choice. Courage is also a choice,” she stated, reinforcing the belief that authentic leadership originates from within.
Dr. Ina Gjikondi, founder of the One Humanity Lab, praised Gifford’s ability to confront difficult truths while inspiring change through clarity and action. Additional remarks were offered by Maestro Zane Dalal and Dr. Natalie Houghtby-Haddon, who emphasized themes of leadership through harmony and attentive listening, complementing the event’s focus on conscious leadership.
The ceremony concluded with Gifford receiving the ‘Mystic Crystal,’ a symbolic award from the One Humanity Lab recognizing individuals who embody the integration of diverse traditions into a unified whole. The honor acknowledged Gifford’s lifelong commitment to fostering awareness and unity across different communities and disciplines.
Gifford’s appointment as a Founding Fellow and the launch of her book are regarded as important milestones, particularly for the global Zoroastrian community and for broader discussions on ethical leadership. Proceeds from *A Call to Consciousness* are directed to support the One Humanity Lab’s initiatives, including fellowships and programs aimed at cultivating leadership worldwide. The book is available for purchase through major online retailers.
