Chinese Olympic tennis champion Zheng Qinwen has donated one million yuan (approximately $150,000) to support relief efforts following severe flash floods and landslides near the China-Nepal border. The 23-year-old athlete made the contribution in response to the devastation caused by recent natural disasters in the region.

The donation was confirmed by a social media account linked to the China Charity Federation, which also noted that Zheng plans to continue monitoring the recovery activities. She expressed her hope that those affected by the disaster would overcome the challenges and rebuild their homes promptly.

The disaster occurred last week when glacier-related floods surged down from the border area between Tibet, an autonomous region of China, and Nepal. The resulting floods and landslides have caused widespread destruction, with more than 900 confirmed fatalities and nearly 4,500 individuals reported missing.

Zheng Qinwen, widely recognized as one of China’s top sports figures, previously contributed a similar amount following a 2025 earthquake in Tibet. She won the women’s singles gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics and is currently competing at the US Open tennis tournament.
