Top-seeded Alexander Zverev advanced to the semifinals of the US Open on Wednesday with a straight-sets victory over the Netherlands’ Botic van de Zandschulp. The German, ranked world number two, secured the win 6-2, 7-5, 6-1 at Arthur Ashe Stadium, maintaining his pursuit of a second Grand Slam title following his maiden major triumph at the French Open in June.

Zverev, 29, who was the runner-up at the US Open in 2020, displayed control throughout the match against the 70th-ranked van de Zandschulp. He broke the Dutch player twice in the opening set, establishing an early lead. Although van de Zandschulp showed resilience during the second set and earned a set point while leading 5-4, he was unable to convert the opportunity after misjudging a return. Zverev capitalized on this lapse by leveling the score at 5-5, then broke serve to take the set 7-5.

The momentum shifted decisively in Zverev’s favor in the third set. Van de Zandschulp fell behind by two breaks and was broken again in the seventh game, allowing Zverev to close out the match.

Zverev will face unseeded Russian Karen Khachanov in the semifinals on Friday. With this victory, Zverev continues to build momentum as he aims to add the US Open title to his Grand Slam achievements.
