Alexander Zverev secured Germany’s advancement to the Davis Cup Finals with a straight-sets victory over Dino Prizmic on Sunday. The world number two defeated Prizmic 6-2, 6-4 in Halle, completing his team’s 3-1 victory over Croatia in the qualifying round.

Zverev, who had claimed the US Open title just a week earlier, opened the tie strongly by defeating Matej Dodic in straight sets on Saturday. The overnight score was tied 1-1 after Daniel Altmeier succumbed to Prizmic later that day. Germany regained the lead on Sunday when Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz secured a 7-5, 6-2 win in the doubles rubber against Croatia’s Nicola Mektic and Mate Pavic, setting the stage for Zverev to clinch qualification.

The win advances Germany to the Davis Cup Finals scheduled for November 24 to 29 in Bologna, where they aim to capture the prestigious team title for the first time since 1993.

Britain also booked their place in the finals on Sunday following a 6-3, 6-4 doubles victory by Henry Patten and Neal Skupski over Ecuador’s Gonzalo Escobar and Diego Hidalgo, giving them a 3-0 lead in their qualifier.

The final spot in the eight-team field remains undecided, with Spain holding a 2-0 advantage against Chile after Saturday’s singles matches.

Other teams that have already qualified for the finals include Austria, South Korea, and Canada. The host nation and reigning champion Italy have automatic entry.
